Starting strong, because your family’s safety through confidence and knowledge comes first
We will start our relationship with you with a slightly longer than usual "onboarding day" by building contingency plans to give you and your family the confidence you'll need in case of emergencies with a safety meeting specific to your home. That same day, we’ll complete a full Stellar Report of your home, providing graded evaluations in multiple categories as well as an overall score. This gives you a clear picture of where your home can be improved and allows you to track progress over time as we continue to maintain and understand its unique needs with each visit.
During the optional family safety and contingency plan meeting with every member of your home, we'll cover:
Identify primary and secondary fire escape routes from each bedroom.
Designate a family meeting point outside the home.
Show locations of:
Smoke detectors & CO detectors (test them).
Fire extinguishers (demonstrate how to use).
First aid kit & flashlights.
Review safe storage of chemicals, paints, fuels, propane.
Check railings, stairs, and trip hazards.
Show where the main water shutoff is and how to operate it.
Identify and test shutoffs under sinks, toilets, and appliances.
Inspect sump pump, backup power if available.
Show location of water heater; explain temperature, T&P valve, flushing schedule.
Check for obvious leaks or signs of past water intrusion.
Locate the main electrical panel, demonstrate breaker reset.
Show location of GFCI and AFCI outlets; test at least one.
Discuss safe use of extension cords and surge protectors.
Label or explain key breakers (kitchen, furnace, water heater, etc.).
Identify outdoor outlets and ensure covers are weather-tight.
Locate gas shutoff to house and individual appliances.
Show where the furnace and A/C are, how to change filters.
Point out the thermostat and seasonal settings (cool/heat/fan/auto).
Check dryer vent and discuss cleaning schedule.
Refrigerator coils (cleaning for efficiency).
Dishwasher filter location and cleaning.
Washing machine hoses (inspection and replacement schedule).
Garbage disposal reset button.

Basic exterior walkaround: gutters, downspouts, siding clear of soil.

Make sure everyone knows where flashlights, water shutoff, and fire extinguishers are.
Establish a communication plan (if separated in an emergency).
